Abstract

This article analyzes the novels Los deseos y su sombra by Ana Clavel and Fuego 20 by Ana García Bergua as post-representational literary cartographies of Mexico City. Through the figure of the spectral flâneuse, the study examines female invisibility as a narrative device that allows the protagonists to move through the city at the cost of their corporeality and agency. The analysis is organized around three central axes: the private space as a setting of violence and desire; historical landmarks and identity pathways as anchors for alternative historical perspectives and symbolic female trajectories. It argues that both novels challenge the boundaries between public and private spheres, shedding light on marginalized female experiences in urban spaces and proposing new ways of thinking about the right to the city through literature.
