About the Journal

About the Journal

Perramus. Journal of Semiotic Studies on Graphic and Visual Media was founded in 2026 by Prof. Fernando Candón Ríos. It is published by the Pandora Association for Feminist Studies and Contemporary Thought (NIF G16756496), a Spanish organization that promotes critical reflection, situated thought, and knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Perramus specializes in the study of literature, literary theory, and cultural criticism as applied to graphic and visual media. The journal publishes research that examines visual narratives, semiotic devices, and forms of representation in graphic novels, comics, film, television, and other audiovisual media, with particular attention to the relationships between image, text, ideology, and power. Perramus encourages dialogue between critical traditions from the Hispanic world and other cultural contexts, and it welcomes articles, reviews, and interviews grounded in innovative theoretical frameworks, distant from conventional philological approaches and open to intermedial, comparative, and transdisciplinary perspectives.

Editorial Management

Perramus is a digital, open-access, non-commercial publication. It is published under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0) and does not charge any fees to authors or readers. The journal is sustained independently through the collaborative work of the Pandora Association and its editorial team.

Editorial decisions are made collectively by the Editor-in-Chief, the editorial team, and the Scientific Advisory Board. The journal is published biannually and follows principles of transparency, publication ethics, and political commitment to feminist criticism.

Calls for Papers and Schedule

The journal publishes two issues per year. Submissions (articles, interviews, or reviews) are accepted during two submission periods: from January 1 to March 31 (for the June issue) and from July 1 to September 30 (for the December issue).

The editorial team may close a call before the announced deadline if an exceptionally high number of submissions is received. Any changes will be announced on the journal’s website. Accepted submissions will be published in the issue corresponding to each semester, once the peer-review process has been completed.

Editorial Review and Peer Review

All submissions undergo a two-stage evaluation process: an initial review by the editorial team, focused on thematic and formal suitability, followed by an external double-blind peer-review process.

Before submitting reviews or interviews, contributors are advised to contact the editorial team (seminarioasociacionpandora@gmail.com) to confirm their relevance to the journal’s scope. Authors are also encouraged to consult the Author Guidelines.

Copyright and Use of Content

Perramus recognizes full authorship rights for all contributors. Authors retain the copyright to their work but grant the journal the exclusive right of first publication in open access, under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0 Licencia Creative Commons).

This license allows works to be copied, shared, archived, or reused for non-commercial purposes, provided that proper credit is given to the author and to the original publication in Perramus (issue, year, page numbers, and link). The journal explicitly authorizes deposit in institutional or thematic repositories from the moment of publication.

Authors may also enter into subsequent agreements for the non-exclusive redistribution of their texts, provided that the initial publication in this journal is acknowledged. Translation, republication, or inclusion in other works is permitted, as long as the original source is properly cited.

Submission of a proposal implies that the text is original, has not been previously published in whole or in part, and is not under simultaneous consideration by another journal or publication, in any language.
